What We Believe

                                        Trinity

We believe and trust in God the Father, source of all being and life, the one for whom we exist.

We believe and trust in God the Son, Jesus Christ, who took our human nature, died for us and rose again.

We believe and trust in God the Holy Spirit, who gives life to the people of God and makes Christ known in the world.

This is the faith of the Church.

Christian belief is set down in the Nicene Creed, the Apostles Creed, the Athanasian Creed and the Profession of Faith used in the service of Baptism. The word 'creed' is taken from the Latin 'credo' meaning 'I believe'. The text of these creeds can be found on the Church of England website

These statements of belief  are common to the Church of England and to the Methodist Church. This is one reason why our LEP at St Matthew's has grown into one church, where we share our common inheritance - 'Though we are many, we are one body'.
